Today I'll be reviewing a restaurant called
Pasta J! If you've read my blog before, you'd have noticed I've blogged about this place before - twice, actually! Click
here and
here to read them.
PastaJ was initially located at Keong Saik Road in Tanjong Pagar, but because of rental issues, John (the owner, it's where the 'J' in the restaurant's name comes from) had to move out, and after a few months, it's found a new home in Upper Thomson Road! I am ecstatic about this shift because it's way nearer to my house now and it's within a 15min driving distance. Needless to say, I've brought my parents down more than a few times now and they, like me, absolutely love the food. :D
Here're some of the photos I've accumulated from my visits there (do check out my previous entries for more photos of food items! I'm really adventurous when it comes to eating, so I've tried many items on the menu):
The
Seafood Laksa pasta - it used to cost $12.90 at Keong Saik but I think because of the move from a coffeeshop to a proper restaurant location, the price has been increased to about $20, I think? This is the only item on the menu that is slightly pricey, the rest cost about $15! But the generous amount of seafood really makes it worth it! There're prawns, an entire squid, and mussels.
I guess the food 'genre' would be considered
fusion: Italian, Asian, I suppose? It's really yummy - it satisfies my pasta craving so well, but there's a Asian twist to it. John uses herbs wonderfully (:
This is the
Garlic herb chicken pasta! The meat was flavourful and succulent, because of the seasoning, and as you can see, the skin was crisp! Such flavours trapped in the skin, it really hits you when placed against the tongue.
This is a new item!
Pesto pasta with prawns. I can't eat the prawns, but I really love PastaJ's pesto. It always tastes absolutely fresh, and the balance of olive oil, parmesan cheese, and chopped basil leaves is perfect. I have come to realise that even the fineness of the chopped basil contributes to how tasty it is - if chopped too roughly, and the pieces are big, it's kind of jarring. It must be chopped just right!
I've been having this item a lot the past few times I was there! The
rustic pork chops with mushrooms. The pork chops are marinated to perfection. Your taste buds really come to life when the pork chop is put into your mouth! They tingle with a harmony of garlicky goodness and other herbs. I think the method in which it is cooked - it's slowly grilled - really keeps the juices in the meat. Absolutely lovely, a must-try for all garlic lovers!
I don't have a photo of the
Mac&Cheese ($8.90), but it tastes amazing too. The cheese is at the right level of sweetness and I like that the bacon is chewy too. (: A slightly smaller portion perhaps, for people with big appetites, but usually just alright for me. Also, do try the
Muddy mushroom soup! Really yummy as well. The desserts are fantastic as well: the Pandan ice cream with gula melaka syrup is amazing, and so is the warm brulee!
The other day the Lingsoc peeps went down for dinner.
Trying out the colours and speed (the orange lighting in the restaurant doesn't make for good photos though, pfft!!)
John helped us snap a photo!
Hehe edited this to look like a sketch

We were there to 'celebrate' Jun Yong's birthday (it had already passed by for two weeks lololol). I was initially not going to go because I was really stressed out regarding my thesis consultation the next day, but Bert and Gang were really supportive and told me to go so they could help me with understanding Systemic Functional Grammar. I've since abandoned SFG but I'm really grateful to have such supporting friends! I'm glad I went 'cos we just had such a good laugh about silly things and it was nice that we could just... well be out of school I guess. Had a talk about amusing references, how to spot who's right for you and just happy talk in general. Some of us are only closer to each other now, so it's quite funny to talk about first impressions and such. :D We also went to eat ice cream and Rochor dou hua (tou huey, however you want to pronounce it, beancurd)!
I LOVE YOU ALLLLLLLL we only have 3 more weeks with each other O: O: O: HOMG. )': Thinking about not going to school with you all makes me sad. ):
But anyway, back to PastaJ - their address is
205 Upper Thomson Road, Singapore 574345. You can call at 90041800 to make reservations! It's on the same side as LongHouse Food Centre, and Fat Boys (thus opposite of Salted Caramel, and the ba chor mee place, if you're familiar with the area). One really pertinent downside to the restaurant is that they're awfully understaffed now, so one really has to wait for a REALLY long time for the food to arrive. I'll be really honest here - if you don't like to wait, you might get really pissed off during your visit. During one visit, my dad's Mac&Cheese only arrived after my mom and I had finished our main courses. It's unpleasant to not be able to eat your main courses at the same time, but on the other hand, John's really trying his best! I guess the most we can do is hope that he gets more staff soon. (: Otherwise, for affordable and yummy food, do visit PastaJ!
Here're the links to their
Facebook page, and also their
website!

Selfies snapped at home! I was using a new lipstick from British brand No. 7! It's such a pretty English rose bridal kind of colour. (:

Was really craving beer so when I found this last bottle of Kronenbourg 1664 blanc at home I was delighted :D All the books you see are library books I've borrowed in order to make myself an expert on voice-overs and narratology. *pushesgeekspecsup*
Hope everyone's having a good Thursday! (:
