Concetto by Saveur

HONOURS THESIS HAS BEEN SUBMITTED!!!

Or actually, I should say yell "I HAVE SUBMITTED MY HONOURS THESIS" because the former takes the subject out of the sentence and in this particular case, I would like to emphasise my participation in this process.  EL geekness aside, I really have submitted my thesis!  That was on the 14th April.  (:  It's been an arduous journey, and I wrote quite a long thank you note on Facebook for the people who've helped me along this journey - that will be done on the blog soon too.  I didn't actually get to rest after thesis submission, because I still had World Lang group paper to work on, so I only really got to rest properly on Wednesday night/Thursday morning.  I took a few days to myself, staying in my room, catching up on GAME OF THRONES, The Following and Elementary, and sleeping whenever I wanted.  Needless to say for someone who doesn't need so much sleep, this activity has come to an end and I'm now getting started on other things!  Blogging's one of them, and honestly, I've missed this platform so much.

We visited Concetto a few weeks back, and to be honest, Bert and I had really been looking forward to this meal because Concetto's a venture by Saveur!  And if you've read my blog, you'd know I'm a huge fan of Saveur, because of its delicious dishes (especially the duck confit and Saveur's pasta) and affordable prices.  When they announced their new venture starting Italian cuisine, I was even more excited because I LOVE ITALIAN FOOD.

Here's the food that we ordered!

Gang insisted he had only ordered this because it was called a FAGGOTINI, but upon double checking, this is actually called the Pumpkin Fattottini (S$7.90)!  Apparently there's a type of pasta called Fagottini but that was not used in this dish; this is a buttery pastry filled with sweet pumpkin paste!  Gang kindly let me try a mouthful and I suppose I wasn't in the mood for a sweet dish, but I think that if you're in the mood for pumpkin, the pumpkin paste in this pastry is pretty yummy.

Bert ordered this: the Salmon main course (S$15.90) which had parma ham, a pea ragu and bonito oil in it!  She also very kindly let me try a mouthful, but this was wayyy too salty for my liking.  With the combination of parma ham and bonito oil, I think the salmon shouldn't be salted that much.  But then again, I don't like food that's too salty so perhaps you could give it a try yourself.

I got this (Melcher did as well, copycat)!!!!!  I was really excited for it, because I'd read reviews about it.  This is the Creamy Pork (S$9.90).  I love thick pastas, so I was delighted when I saw the width of this fettuccine they use (usually it's of a thinner variety).  The sauce was really creamy and the pork was really tender.  I would say the dish is good but somehow it didn't seem to come together and knock me off my feet.  I thought it would pack a huge OOMPH but it was just, alright!

Bert and I!  I really love her Asos sparkly knit top by the way.  We both agreed that the food at Concetto was alright, and maybe our expectations were too high after having waited more than two weeks for our visit there.  For its affordable prices, I think the food's really alright.  However, I'd have expected more from the Saveur kids!  Perhaps some part of our experience was due to the servers not being friendly.  I felt that they were a bit curt, and didn't really know how to serve or clear away plates in the right manner.  One server, while clearing away Jing Ke's plate, instead of requesting for her to pass her spoon along, just said "Spoon".  Personally, if a restaurant's food is amazing,  but the servers rubbish, I won't return.  Having said that though, I don't think the servers at Concetto are rude, just slightly curt.  Maybe it's because they're all pretty young.

Here's Concetto's website and address if you're interested in checking it out!

We headed back to the new building of Plaza Singapura to Hoshino Coffee to have dessert.  (:

Here's Melcher's Matcha softee!  I didn't try it but from his happy expression I gathered it tasted good.  Bert and I shared a lava cake but the server accidentally split the little cup that held the vanilla ice cream onto the plate, so I didn't snap a photo of it.  I actually death glared the server (I COULDN'T CONTROL MYSELF, I had only 3 hours of sleep), and she sheepishly offered to change the dessert for us but Bert and I told her it was fine lolololol.  Anyway the chocolate lava cake was pretty good, but they could have given more ice cream for the amount of cake they gave, because the ice cream was so soft when it reached the table that it melted so quickly that we didn't really get to enjoy it as ice cream.

We approached a cute Japanese elderly man to help us take a group photo!  Sadly, there was a huge La Senza screen that to us that shone so brightly that the colour configuration of the photo turned out really odd.  I tried my best to edit them!

Love you friends!  (:

If you notice, I was COLOUR BLOCKING!!!  Coordinating an outfit on 3 hours of sleep gets you a crazy result.  I tried to tone it down with my f21 grey denim vest though, to channel more of a biker chick vibe :D

Went to school with Melcher because we both had consultations with our respective supervisors.  I was particularly nervous because I had made the decision to change the entire structure of my thesis - this was in Week 12, mind you - and I was afraid Dr Talib wouldn't want me to.  In the end I needn't have worried because he said "Sounds okay, I'll leave it to you" and I spent the afternoon reworking everything!

Some of the last selfies taken in the honours room during my breaks.

I actually stayed till late that night!

This is my I'm-resigned-to-staying-in-the-honours-room-till-after-10pm face.  Strangely, I don't really get creeped out in the honours room, but some of my other friends get creeped out staying in there alone.  I think usually I'm just too tired to be worried, or that I have my music to accompany me.  In any case,  I AIN'T GONNA HAVE TO STAY IN THERE LATE ANYMORE!  That was Wednesday night in week 12, and since I had the green light from Dr Talib to change my thesis data analysis structure, I spent Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday basically sleeping at 8am and catching 3 hours of winks, working on my paper incessantly.  Between sending some of my dear friends my edits, and talking to my precious mom who bought my meals for me, I didn't talk to anyone else at all.  D:  I'm really glad all that is over!

Time to meet up with friends, those who don't have finals, that is.  Well I actually have one final paper, but that's on the 7th of May so I'm pretty much taking a well-deserved break first.  (:

I AM SO HAPPY I CAN GO TO BED WITHOUT SETTING MY ALARM ANYMORE  \o/  \o/
