The Late Plate at NUS (Shaw Foundation Alumni House)

One early Saturday I dragged myself to school in order to get some work done.  I was really sleep-deprived, and dropped the contents of my wallet right in front of the Central Library's entrance!  Thank goodness some people were really nice and helped me pick all them notes and receipts up.

Luckily too, I had my visit to the Late Plate to look forward to!  The Late Plate is a cafe located in NUS, at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House, and it's a TOTAL GEM.  It serves really yummy food, at affordable prices for students!  This particular time was my second visit there.  (:

On my second cup of coffee - I had the espresso first, then a long black.  I really needed strong coffee to keep awake!  The chef, Gibert, was really nice and allowed me to plug my laptop into their electrical socket! After 4 years, my laptop's battery has started to forsake me.  All hot coffees cost 5$, and an additional $1 for iced coffees.  HOWEVER, the Late Plate treats its students really well - we are given a 10% discount off everything!  Hurrah!

I got too hungry to wait for Bryan and decided to order this for myself! An Eggs & Bacon Roll.

You get a choice of bread from ciabatta, wholemeal, dark rye (??) I think, and a last choice.  I got wholemeal the first time (yes, I've eaten this twice!)

The whole roll comes to you really toasty and warm, and I was really craving eggs that day, so this was a sight for thesis-tired eyes.  (:  Look at that heap of eggs!  They were SO SOFT and fluffy, I was so amazed.  Plus they were salted just right!  Just enough to bring the eggy flavour out.  The buttered bread slices were also so delicious - crunchy at the crusts, yet soft and buttery on the inside.

The amount of bacon given is also generous!  I prefer my bacon to be chewy, but this level of crispiness was fantastic to Bryan (yes he had woken up by then haha)

At just 9.90$, this is REALLY FRIGGIN' WORTH IT.  I've actually dabao-ed this home for my mom and brother before, and they both say it's really yummy (once heated up in the oven).  It also comes with a salad, and I think the salad is dressed just amazingly.  The tartness of the balsamic vinegar just coats the leafy greens so well.

Bryan ordered a pasta, the Wild Mushroom Spaghetti:

The earthy mushroom taste really infiltrated the entire dish!  The olive oil made the pasta taste really silky as well.  That day though, I was in the mood for eggs and hence I thought my dish was more yummy!!  :D  The spaghetti costs $12.90, if you're wondering.  (:

This was the second time B and I had been there, and during our first visit, Gibert had given us free dessert.  He's really friendly and nice, and passionate about the food he creates for his customers!  The second time, he was really nice and gave us beef canapes:

He was being all nonchalant and saying it was no big deal ("It's extra for an event we're catering for, later!").  I was delighted, but also really full so I ate one and Bryan the rest.  LOL.  The beef was moist and meaty, but I really love its crust because there was a tinge of sweetness in it and somehow that made the beef taste more memorable!

Do visit The Late Plate if you're on campus and want a laidback and cosy cafe to enjoy your meal at!  The ambience is amazing, as well.  Here's a link to their Facebook page, and their opening hours:

The Late Plate (FB page)
Opening Hours:
Mondays - Wednesdays: 1000 - 1800
Thursdays - Fridays: 1000 - 2000
Saturdays: 1000 - 1600

It's closed on Sundays!

This was what I wore that day:

Grey Forever T-shirt, Asos ; Black maxi slit skirt, River Island ; chunky necklace, really can't remember where from ; Doctor Martens boots!

Was in the mood to wear greys and blacks, just dark colours in general - but still wanted to jazz it up, so I decided to tie a knot to the side of my t-shirt, and the slit up my skirt just makes the whole thing more interesting!  The statement piece of a chunky necklace pulled everything together, methinks.

Asos liked my photo (the first one) on Instagram!  I felt so happy hahahhhaa it's such a cool thing!  My elder brother commented and said "#swag" LOLOL.  Zhiwei and I had this giggly moment when we bounced up and down celebrating it as well.  LOLOLOL.  My outfit was featured on its #asseenonme page; here's the link if you're interested: Asseenonme

Have a good start to the week, y'all!  (:
