today's happy song
//
Since secondary 3, Zhiwei and I had been seat partners (AM I RIGHT? I sat with Anuja in secondary 1 and 2 right? ._. Oh goodness my failing memory). I can't really recall whether it was because of our register numbers, or by choice, but I'm certainly glad we've been together since then! Zhiwei was always there when I needed to concentrate and when I needed to slack (ahem playing bingo hangman and whatever sorts of lame games DURING class times hahahaha). Actually I think sitting at the back of the class automatically accorded you some degree of being a
rebel, because the distance from the teacher is inversely proportionate to the amount of attention you pay the teacher. I KID. Also teachers apparently subscribe to this belief and tend to always walk toward the back of the class or pick on students at the back of the classroom. Cunning students choose to sit at the front of the classroom to avoid scrutiny - I know of students whose eyes glaze over even though they sit right in the first row. Plus in college this doesn't really apply because the arrival time is key to getting empty seats lolol.
In any case, I digress - this post is supposed to be about Zhiwei's graduation! I genuinely thought that her ceremony was going to exceed its stipulated time because of the experience I had last year with my friends who graduated in Year 3, so I timed myself to arrive late but hers ended early, surprisingly! So I hopped straight toward Arts to find her instead of heading to the University Cultural Centre.
And snuck into the reception that the Geography department was having! If anyone asked, I was a cousin. :D
Zhiwei and I!!!!!!!! :D Happiness all around. Everyone was so happy (partly because they were able to loosen their ties, remove their blazers and most importantly, take off the oversized graduation gown that TRAPS SO MUCH HEAT within its massive folds of cloth), especially the parents who were positively glowing with pride that their children had made it through 4 grueling years of university life! I felt like a proud parent too!
Anyway I'd never taken any Geography modules, but I felt that the department was all rather jovial and kind. They were serving parents drinks in any case, and as Prof T.C Chang said, "This will be the first time you're being served a drink by a professor!"
Went out of the room to snap a few photos in the beautiful sunlight after the speeches were over. Zhiwei and I! :D
Zhiwei with some of her friends (:
FUTURE TEACHER!! (:
Really very proud of you for having made it through university - I'm so glad that though we were separated during our Junior College years, we were reunited in university! We took so many classes (UEs, university requirements, and thank goodness you had a minor in EL!) together and did so many projects together; it was almost as if we were back in secondary school again. From the hilarious SC1101E (sociology exposure mod) project, where during our presentation, I was desperately trying to explain why a man was needed in the family structure ("
Sperms are needed? Eh no wait, AN EGG IS NEEDED TOO WHAT EH NO"), where you saved me and said that a FATHER figure is needed, to the even funnier project done in EL3257 (Investigating Language in the Media), where the two of us worked on that Burger King advertisement and you asked "
Huh, the blow-up doll is called Lil' Kim?" LOL, it's been honest great fun. I have seen you work so so so very hard, and with equivalent portions of diligence and intelligence, you have achieved the highest award conferred! I am ecstatic for you. (: Thank you for having been my pillar of support, and having been the best listening ear I have had, I am grateful for your being. Go forth and be brilliant! Spread them Geography (and other) knowledge to them young ones! I know you will be an amazing role model and you will do amazing things. (:
This is the sunflower bouquet I bought for Zhiwei! It's from my favourite florist,
Shi Ki at Takashimaya, Basement 1. I first bought a bouquet from this florist a few years ago, and I was served by a zealous Japanese lady who was really helpful and knowledgeable about flowers, which flowers worked together and how to arrange them in the best possible way. I've since gone back to order many bouquets from them, and I've found that the staff is really polite and hardworking as well! Click
here if you want to visit their site.
Choon Hang and us! I first met him in London in 2012, where the three of us went to
Pret a Manger for lunch. They have excellent soups, I recall, hahahaha. So happy for you too, congratulations!
With Zhiwei's pretty elder sister, Shu Ting! I really liked her outfit that day, especially the contrast of her brightly coloured and big-gem necklace against the soft blue dress! Zhiwei's dad had a fabulous pink tie against a rich purple shirt as well. Zhiwei's mom also has the best eye for tops for Zhiwei!! Best dressed family, love it :D
These photos are courtesy of Zhiwei's mom's DSLR, which has a huge flash attached to it LOL. I was at a loss as to how to tweak the settings so I tried my best to take good shots, hope they're acceptable!
Hehe best candid shot ever
That's it for today folks! Hope everyone's looking forward to the weekend. I'm down with a throat inflammation and flu, so I'm most probably gonna be stuck at home ;_;
Much love though, I have stuff to edit so I'll be fine!
xx
