life of an ill and unemployed

School has started!  Well, it hasn't for me, but it has, for all you young minds out there.  I feel a tinge of nostalgia reading posts of friends and juniors regarding the beginning of this semester and it makes me ruminate about how worried I was, right before starting my first semester of my Honours year.  I really thought I wouldn't be able to make it through school and it was a really tough semester, no, make that an entire year.  All of that seems so much in the past now, though.  (:

In more recent news, I have been a klutz lately.....  I don't know whether it's the medicine that causes it, but I was really clumsy the day that I went for my wisdom tooth extraction, and I managed to spill some soya bean milk over my laptop.  I think I acted quite speedily and threw tissue papers onto the keyboard, switched off the laptop, and then chucked it into a bag of rice.  I'm sure most of you have heard about the bag of rice trick for phones!  But I didn't really consider the grooves and crevices that my MacBook Pro has, and soon I realised that many rice grains were stuck in those places.  So I decided to remove the back cover and just turn the laptop onto its front, letting the fan blow any liquid dry, and also turning on the aircon to maintain a cool environment.  I WAS REALLY BUMMED OUT THAT DAY!  ):  I ain't usually that clumsy...  Though most of my medicine doesn't cause drowsiness, somehow I think that all the antibiotics and painkillers just made me space out a little.  I hate taking medicine UGH.  In any case, most websites recommend that you don't switch on your laptop until after 48 hours, but I think Bryan and I left it for about only 24 hours!  He really was a dear; he went to Simlim Square to get the tools needed to tear apart my laptop.  It's quite a chore to open up a Macbook Pro - you need at least three types of screws!

B taking apart my laptop whilst I sit at the side in medicine-induced zone out ness.  It was quite hilarious to have him say the exact same thing my mom said to me "You must screw the thing in directly perpendicular, if not it'll get rounded!  You cannot use excessive force okay"  OH YOU ENGINEERS.  Yes, my mom worked as an engineer before my birth caused an early retirement!  :D  In my household, my pops is the one who read humanities and my momsy learned engineering!

It was such a pain to get the logicboard out!!!!!!!  *keelsover*  Luckily everything was alright.  Macbook Pros have indicators that show if liquid had contaminated the parts and they turn from white to red.  Thankfully mine were all still white!  :D  Assisted Bryan in putting back the parts and basically I was just really worried; if not for Bryan I wouldn't have dared to take it apart myself!  Really feel so taken care of!!  Thank you B!!!  :D

My mom's been taking really good care of me as well.  I started complaining about having to take porridge the day after my wisdom tooth extraction because porridge tastes gross cold (I can't eat hot food).  And while my mom says I'm a bad patient in comparison to my younger brother - who gladly ate porridge for every meal for 5 days after his wisdom tooth extraction - when I requested for yogurt, this is what she bought!

:p  She means it half in jest and half in love.  Her gesture I mean.  "Let you eat until you shiok"

Jumping up to happier times when I could have solid food, I went out with Momsy for a shopping date!  She was in search for a dress for my graduation ceremony (which I have yet to blog about, I apologise for that).  My mom seldom shops and she hates shopping so I genuinely don't know where I got my addiction to consumption from hahahah.  We first had lunch at Saveur at Far East Plaza!  It's one of my favourite places to go to for really yummy and affordable French cuisine, and you can read my past entries on my visits there if you'd like, click here and here.

We were laughing about this because she had seen on a variety show that selfie-taking techniques REALLY made a difference.  I was demonstrating the tilting one's chin down and holding the camera downward from a higher angle technique here!  :3

During my past visits, I had always ordered the Duck Confit ($12.90) for my main course, but this time I decided to get the Pork Belly ($10.90)!

When it came I must admit I was a little disappointed with the size of the pork belly - but my disappointment soon disappeared once I tasted the lentils!  I'm not a fan of beans but these lentils tasted amazingly creamy with the egg beat into them!  Plus the pork belly was really flavourful.  The skin was slightly too tough to chew on, though.

The mommy had the Duck Confit and she heartily approved of the mashed potatoes underneath (she's a huge fan of potato).  :D

Click here to go to Saveur's website!

Left FEP, but I happened to glance into bYSI's shop display and they seemed to have pretty nice tops there!  Well, they looked like what my mom would like, so I dragged her inside.

Entertained myself eavesdropping on a bunch of taitais shopping and complimenting each other hehehe

ootd // daisy top from bugis ; coral high waist chiffon pants passed down by none other than mommy ; pink snakeskin sandals from Asos !

Happy mommy and I  :D

It was quite a daunting task looking for the perfect dress and she tires easily (from shopping, haahhaaha) so we popped into TCC at Isetan for a coffee break!

My crumble cappuccino thing was quite odd.  But the coffee was nice!

Sent this to my younger brother because he had just sent me some horrifying thing on Snapchat.  HE'S SUCH A GOOF HAHAHA I swear my brother's the most annoying yet hilarious thing on Earth

I wanted to check out the new Robinsons Orchard that had just taken over The Heeren at Somerset so we headed there... and struck gold!

Isn't this such a pretty dress!!!  (:  My mom looks so cute in it.

Thankful for this amazing lady  (:

The dressing rooms at Robinsons Orchard are pretty dope as well, with lit mirrors and huge spaces!  Makes for an amazing shopping experience but most of the brands there are quite luxurious and expensive so my broke ass had to settle for browsing  :D

MOTD //
Eyes - Makeup Academy Starry Night eyeshadow palette, Heroine liquid eyeliner
Cheeks - Nars Super Orgasm powder blush
Lips - Helena Rubinstein lipstick

I was going for an '80s vibe (considering I had donned pants from that decade), and personally I feel that coral lipsticks really transport one back to that era!  Of huge hair and powdery makeup.  It's the only product I have from Helena Rubinstein and I remember purchasing it at the Copenhagen Airport before my flight back to Singapore.  Saw the counter and I knew I couldn't leave Europe without buying one HR product!  It's really moisturising and the colour payoff's good.  (:

After a long day, we met my dad at Island Penang Cafe at Sago Street near Chinatown for dinner!  After having gone there with my parents once, they've been hooked and my daddy keeps wanting to dine there, heh.  You can read my past entry on our visit if you'd like, click here!

Something new we'd tried: fried rice!  My favourite dish is still the bee tai mak though.  The chili that comes along with the fried rice is amazing though!

Also had really nice satay :D

Bryan stays in the vicinity so he came by and decided to bring us to a new place for dessert: Mei Heong Yuen Dessert!

There were SO MANY people there even though it was already late on a weekday night!  I guess Singaporeans really don't stop eating, haha.

They're famous for their snow ice!  The difference between the traditional shaved ice and snow ice is that for the latter, they freeze the sugared liquid to an ice block first before flaking it!  So you don't pour the syrup over non-flavoured ice.  I guess the good thing is that you won't get any melted parts that don't not have flavour, get what I mean?

What was amazing was that they provide customers with their own bottles of gula melaka syrup!!

yum

We both ordered the Chendol Snow Ice ($6)!

IT HAD SO MUCH INGREDIENTS!  Jelly, red bean and chendol.  And of course that massive chunk of coconut milk infused snow ice.

It was yummy, but to be honest, it was overkill for me  :p  I prefer my old fashioned chendol, thanks!  :D

Here's the website to Mei Heong Yuen Dessert if you'd like, click!

Can't wait till I can leave the house without my swollen cheek!  Hope everyone's having a good start to the week  :D

Love,
Pamela
