I just caught the ending of the made-for-tv film
Thinspiration on
Diva channel.
It was highly ironic to me that I had just exercised out of guilt from eating too much during dinner and from gaining weight in general these few weeks, and was only waiting for my brother to get out of the shower that I chanced upon this show.
I didn't catch the entire show but I got the gist of it... A dancer gets sucked into the world of anorexia and starts becoming obsessed with worshipping "Ana" (anorexia). It's creepy as fuck, the photos. She was turning into a lost cause when something tragic happened and she snapped out of it. Fictional it may be, but there's truth to such phenomena. Girls and boys, even women and men, suffer from eating disorders.
When I typed "thinspiration" into the Google search engine to find out more about the show, guess what auto complete suggestions appeared?

It's sad... I'm utterly crushed by what social media is being used for. Why isn't it being used for more meaningful causes? This is why I dislike hashtags such as #thinspiration #thighgap #fatdieme ... It doesn't make sense. All of it doesn't make sense.
We should all love our bodies more. The way we look really doesn't define us as people. Personally, I know I tend to feel bad about myself once I don't exercise and consume excessively. I'm learning to totally accept that we should be exercising for the benefits of feeling good - once you feel good, you naturally look good. Having the occasional snack shouldn't bring one down like this.
We should put social media to better use as well. Honestly. I know cheesy quotes can get annoying sometimes, but damn I'd rather see things like "Recovery is possible" and "The mirror does not reflect who you are from the inside" than bloody thinspiration again.
LET'S START SPREADING HAPPINESS AND MORE LOVE FOR EVERYONE, YAY
PS I really am not against anyone who has an eating disorder. Recovery is possible, friends. Each and every single one of us human beings are being held to sky-high standards of beauty, femininity and masculinity that are entirely impossible to achieve through humane ways (all horribly done through Photoshop and other technological means). Faced with such pressure, we're bound to crack sometimes. It's okay to fall off the wagon. But love yourself that little more, ey? If not, who else is going to love you entirely for who you are?
