wonky bass dancing, hi hi
//
I brought Gannuer to
Tonkotsu King at Orchid Hotel for dinner on Thursday! The shop is about 5 minutes' walk away from Tanjong Pagar MRT station.
FIRST IN THE LINE!!!!!!!!!! Like most ramen restaurants, Tonkotsu King has a
siesta period (it differs from branch to branch, and on different days, so please do check if you want to head down!), and only opens at 6pm on Thursdays but I told Gannuer that there'd be people queuing even before 6pm so we should head down early and we did!! :x
Took the chance to take a few nice photos..
And some wonky faces
Wasn't planning to head out so I wasn't wearing a lot of makeup and I wasn't really dressed very nicely but I was EXCITED! If you don't already realise from reading my blog, I'm a HUGE fan of ramen! I'd already been to Tonkotsu King at Orchid Hotel once, and to Takeda Keisuke's other two outlets (Tori King at Amara Hotel and Tonkotsu King Four Seasons at Bugis -- there's a fourth outlet!), and I reaaaaally enjoy the broths of his various ramens.
We got in!!!
Decided to tick "strong" for the taste of the soup this time, usually I choose "normal"
During class I mentioned to Jun Yong that I was heading to Tonkotsu King for dinner and he told me to try this! Keisuke's special Japanese green tea Cola. It wasn't anything spectacular hahahaahaha just something fizzy
My lousily taken photo of my ramen bowl BUT HEY LOOKS ARE DECEIVING. This bowl of ramen was amazing!!! The broth is really flavourful; you can taste how much work goes into it
When Gannuer drank her first mouthful of soup she went "MMMMM !! MMMMMMM MMMMM MMMM"
Yay ;D I think I'll stick to "normal" for the taste of the soup though, "strong" is a little too salty for me!
Again, I feel that the pork char siew slice at Tonkotsu King is too stiff for me -- nothing will compare to Santouka's pork cheek slice -- but the broth really makes up for it. I like the texture and thickness of their noodles as well. If you choose "normal" for noodle texture I feel it's just a little too soft, because I prefer hard noodles!
We started walking around the area after dinner and it was nice! I think the Duxton area is really pleasant with many cafes and bars around. However, most of the well-known ones, such as The Plain, Group Therapy and Selfish Gene, close really early (6 or 7pm?).
Hence we popped into one we found was open,
Gluck Bistro Express at Teck Lim Road
What is gluck? :D
I got a Bavik pilsner, it's a Belgium beer. Gannuer got a peach beer -- I didn't take note of the brand because it was way too sweet for me lol.
My pilsner was just okay, wasn't anything amazing. I still prefer Schneiderweisse, Erdinger and Kronenbourg!
However, the cafe is a really nice place to chill at! It's small and cozy; the only issue I have is with their seats -- they aren't supported with a back so I kept leaning backward and almost falling haha. Oh the beer prices are pretty high too, so I wouldn't go back there for a beer. It's more of a coffee place! I'd go back to try their beers next time, and because the barista is extremely interesting to talk to. Having worked in the corporate world for quite some time and travelled around to many places he had an interesting take on life. Look for Edmund if you're there!
RECESS WEEK IS UPON US. SO MANY PROJECTS TO DO. I'M TIRED.
Off to lunch I go!
