Mad for Garlic // Selfish Gene Cafe

I probably shouldn't be up this late considering school's going to start soon and I've to START my bidding for classes tomorrow, but I embarked on a journey to discover more techno tracks and just couldn't stop.  :D

This was one I unearthed.  I've missed listening to music SO MUCH!

I'm currently really hungry right now, and so, blogging at 4am about two food places isn't a really smart idea but it's going to be a short one, so I hope I won't succumb to my hunger pangs.  Well it isn't as if I'd anything to eat in my house D':

I recently had really good food in two places; one of which is Mad for Garlic at Clarke Quay!

Mad for Garlic is an Italian restaurant situated near the cab stand which you get off at if you want to get to the riverside.

BESTIE!!!   Haven't seen her in ages because work has taken her away )':

But our randomly chosen dinner location turned out to be such a gem, because this carbonara that I ordered was AMAZING!

It was so creamy and garlic-y, so cheesy and yet I didn't feel overwhelmed by it, so there's a great balance.  There's a generous amount of bacon given as well!  It was reaaaaaaaaally good.  I think the garlic really makes it work, it's so fragrant and adds so much flavour to the dish.  At $21.70, it's a little price-y but the portion's quite substantial, and it's really so yummy, so it's really worth it.  Flea gave me a first paycheck treat!!  :D  Thanks babe

She ordered the Lobster Cream Pasta ($23.50) but I didn't try it because of my allergy to seafood.  She thought my order was the nicer of the two, though hers was good as well.

Bestie and I not looking to the best of our abilities because she'd just had a long day of work whilst I was nursing a pounding head.  Meh

Thanks for the ootd babe! (:

Here's the website if you want to check their menu out: Mad for Garlic !

Bryan and I also checked out Selfish Gene Cafe before my exams had ended!

He got a Beef Sandwich which I didn't try, but he liked it!  It consists of "roast beef, arugula, mixed salad, dijon mustard, mayonnaise, SGC lemon vinaigrette", as taken from their site.  (:

Whilst I got the Breakfast Plate: "scrambled eggs, pork sausage, honey baked ham, mushroom, tomato confit, toasted brioche, butter and jam".  My scrambled eggs were done nicely; it was creamy and fluffy.  However, I was actually really more impressed with the toasted brioche!  I'm not a huge fan of bread, I often think of it as the vessel for which the really good stuff (for instance, egg mayo, meat, ham, peanut butter) is transferred to my mouth, but this brioche was so yummy.  It was lightly toasted, and the exterior had a slight sweetness to it.  I'm not sure why, but I think it was a natural sweetness.  It went very well with the saltiness of the butter which I lightly spread on it!

A close up ; didn't really care for the sausage because the brioche was stealing the limelight.

Was dressed very casually that day and wearing very little makeup (!! no falsies and not much eyeshadow!), because I had to go and get my back checked out by the acupuncturist.  I felt very much like a museum curator that day!  If museum curators are allowed to wear skinny jeans, that is.

All in all I'm extremely happy that I've found these two places and will definitely be back to visit them both  :DDDD
