During the Lunar New Year period, on one of my free days, I accompanied my mommy and grandma to the
River Hongbao at the floating platform at Marina Bay!
Here are the three generations of cuties HAHAHAHA
When we reached, it was still bright...
In fact, the sunlight was too bright that day. It was still bright at 6pm plus!
We decided to have dinner first, and we went searching for the
Makansutra Gluttons Bay located near Esplanade. I got freaking frustrated because I couldn't find it even with my Google maps app and had to resort to calling Bryan for help. Thank you!! It's kind of hidden away if you're on the side of the floating platform and not on the other side where the office buildings are.
FINALLY, FOOOOOOOD. I love myself some good hawker food. :D The stalls there have all been approved by Makansutra.
This is or luak (
oyster omelette)! The amount of oysters was plentiful and they were really fresh. The omelette was really fragrant and chewy as well!
These chicken wings were kind of normal, but the chili dip that came with it was AMAZING. It was spicy enough, but the tangy taste of it really made the grilled taste of the chicken wings come to life.
Carrot cake was meh, tasted alright but was too soft for my liking. Didn't feel pan fried enough, didn't have the 'wok' taste!
Fried kuay teow was yummy as well! It wasn't too sweet and it wasn't too oily. (:
It was a weekday and it was really crowded at dinner time..... With the limited seating capacity, be prepared to share a table with another group of patrons! The place is also in an open air area so my granny and I were wondering how the stalls would fare if it rained. Some of the tables do have shelters though!
It was finally dark and we got to enjoy the festive lights (:
It was very colourful and festive!! The two horses are there because it is the year of the horse this year.
Mom: "Can you please make it look like the cityscape of Hong Kong in the night?"
Hahaahahahahah Momsy's dreams of traveling. Anyway, her top is from Daisy Street through ASOS! I persuaded her to try this kimono style top; don't you think it looks nice on her? (:
Three of us!
This appeared on Instagram hehe. Follow me at @greekhoney!
There was a queue into this tent. Being
nosy curious Singaporeans, my mom and granny went to have a look, and it turned out that the people were lining up to guess Chinese idioms and sayings from clues given! It was super cool. I asked my mom to try but she said she would get it wrong for sure; they were doing pretty difficult stuff.
Some bulbous flowers hahahahhahah and many aunties and uncles snapping photos.
My mommy made me take a photo with this........... IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A GOAT. The thing behind me in the photo. I don't see it!! Hahahahaahah How is it a goat?
Cropped out two aunties who wouldn't move aside for my mom to snap the photo, MEH :p
Granny looking very cheerful posing with the huge spinning horse!
and Mommy with her zodiac: the Tiger! I think this tiger looks more like a tiger than the goat one for mine. Haha
God of Wealth and Fortune in the background! I told my mom I was gonna climb up the sculpture to touch his foot for good luck lolol
Ending off with two nice photos of Grams and I!
Can't help but contemplate how I really feel about being Chinese...... Is it something that we have to perform? Do we gain understandings of being Chinese through performing such practices like going to River Hongbao event, reading about our ancestries and our pasts, and speaking Mandarin and our dialects? So many of the rituals that my mom's generation performs now, kids in my generation don't even know their significance. I always think about such supposed essential qualities... I do enjoy all these things and learning more about our histories but I don't quite fully get it, I suppose.
Enough thinking for today, time to go and watch Youtube videos!!!!!
