HAHA don't be so alarmed! It was stuff like techno and house. Not repetitive as in, constant (I know songs are supposed to have constant beats). Like repetitive as in it kept going on forever without any change and that was the key thing hahahaha

Today I'm going to be writing about my experience at the
Singapore Night Festival 2014! A huge-scale event, celebrating the arts, performances, and just well, the nature of night life and festivals in general, it was carried out over two weekends from 21-22 Aug and 28-29 Aug this year! I had gone last year (
here is my entry on it if you want to have a read), so I was really looking forward to this year's. If you want to have an idea of the performances and activities that went on,

Went for dinner at
Bangkok Jam in Raffles City Shopping Centre first! Kena dragged by Bryan to eat Thai food again, hence the face (I kid; I enjoy any types of food lolol)
Was particularly interested in their desserts! There was banana tempura, mango sticky rice, tapioca with coconut milk amongst others. So tempting to just skip mains and have dessert
We did still order main courses though, and they arrived fairly quickly!
Bryan made a request for the minced chicken to be changed to minced pork, and they gladly did it!
Thai basil minced pork. Was really flavourful and moist!
I was rather disappointed when my main course, Northern Style Thai Curry Stew, arrived though.
SO LITTLE VEGGIES SOBS look at that pathetic amount of cauliflower given!
And I was a tad grossed out by that top layer of oil as well. But never judge a book by its cover - the curry was actually really good! Spicy and complex, and the pork shoulders were soft. I think they just had to work on their presentation
We had no complaints about our dessert though, Red Ruby!
THE JACKFRUIT WAS FRESH, THANK GOODNESS. I absolutely hate it when the jackfruit's too mushy or too hard. This was just right, totally yummy. And the water chestnut in the rubies was really crunchy as well! To top things off, the coconut ice cream was at the right level of sweetness. Loved it!!
The meal cost us about $22 each with GST. A tad pricey, considering the small portions, but I'd say it's more delicious than Thai Express.
With our tummies filled, we trooped our way from City Hall to Armenian Street, where there was a huge crowd!
Was particularly amused because as soon as we turned the corner onto the street at the Substation, the music that was being performed by the band onstage was SUCH A STARK CONTRAST to the vibes in the atmosphere! Everyone was excited, and you could feel a palpable happiness in the air, but the music pouring out of the band was so....
Apocalyptic-bleak. I remarked to Bryan "What is this end of the world rock metal music?!" Ladies and gentlemen, meet
The Observatory! The lead singer has an incredibly deep voice; it is insane. The drummer is amazing as well; her passion was really evident. Stood there for awhile and watched them perform. There is something mesmerising about that sort of bleakness and darkness, y'all. Check their music out

After that, Bryan and I went to the Peranakan Museum to visit the
Make Up Forever Booth!
Excited for our airbrush tattoos, especially because the both of us had just visited the museum recently and "AUSPICIOUS TATTOO DESIGNS" made us really
giggly - things like ANG KU KUEH and INSECTS are considered auspicious in Peranakan culture!! I was eagerly awaiting my ah lian phoenix and he his ang ku kueh hehehehehe
But unfortunately to our childish dismay, there were only 4 choices: dragon, carp, peony and butterfly! When I sat down at the booth I excitedly told the MUA that I was wearing Make Up Forever HD Foundation :D Hehehehe. Chose the peony while B chose the dragon!
He opted out for the glitter hahahahahaha

Went back out to the street and saw this enormous crowd of people awaiting the start of the
Singapore Pro Wrestling match! It was quite entertaining and really funny to me. Others around me were really getting into the mood! For someone who had grown up watching WWF (now WWE??) and knows about Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin, it was nice knowing that wrestling has reached our tiny island. Bryan and I were then enticed by the aromatic smells of freshly brewed coffee, and we ventured further in, and it turned out to be the
Golden Rule Barber & Co. boys!
The dudes and I managed to talk Bryan into getting a haircut HEHEHEHEHE :D
He also bumped into his friend!
Look at all the people peeking into the room from outside.... Everyone was really intrigued with the live hair-cutting action! Lol
At that moment, my parents called me and said that they had reached so I rushed to the Cathay to pick them up.
Saw these projected onto the trees! Images of the Buddha. (:
When we got back to the barber, Bryan had undergone a transformation! :D

There are quite a few of these swanky barber shops springing up! GRB had price cuts for the festival, and it only cost Bryan $10 for what would usually be a $30+ haircut. Still though, Bryan said they could have been better with their services! I think he said they were pretty rough with scraping the comb against his scalp. ): But I do like the finished look! Reminded me of Danish boys. HAHA
Brought the 'rents back into the Substation Gallery and Pops was just snapping photos hahahahahah
Headed over to the National Museum of Singapore and we couldn't really see the fire act happening in front of the museum!
Settled for going into the museum instead.

Also managed to catch bits and pieces of the Earth Harp performance; that was pretty cool! There was a fixture in the museum as well, for members of the public to try their hand at the harp lines

Decided to head to the Singapore Art Museum and we saw these cars along the way! They had flowers in them. Electric cars - the way forward? Yay or nay?

Attempted to show my mom that one of the photography competition entries of fireworks had been shot by a really quick shutter speed, while she said it was a really long one, but I failed - she was right!
Straight lines would mean a long shutter speed was used! I was thinking about twirly lines, which I think you can achieve with a long shutter speed, but having to move the camera or something.
The light show was nice, as always! Love the sound effects
Finally went home! Was quite tired and I was to have an early morning the next day!

Was honestly surprised that they were using MUFE pigments for the glitter! Never knew they could stay so long on the skin. I really like my MUFE HD foundation by the way, it's excellent for taking photos. :D
Singapore Night Festival 2014 was an amazing event! I always go with an open mind, prepared to miss activities and shows (plainly because I don't like to squeeze in crowds and because I'm terribly short), but I just enjoy walking about in the exhibitions and just basking in the atmosphere. Happy I went, and glad that I went with awesome company (: Hopefully more festivals will be planned in Singapore as we get a grasp on our local culture.

Wah Chee Zi Char at Dover Crescent
Had gotten ready - meaning showering had been accomplished (yes, during holidays, showering IS an accomplishment), makeup had been completed, and outfit chosen - to go out of the house to run some errands when I discovered that said errands could be done online. I got so mad; sometimes, little things such as this really piss me off and I just sink into a disgusting mood. But after hurling off some insults to Bryan and Andy (not AT them, just ranting in general), I sat myself down in front of the laptop and got into some serious house music and am feeling a lot better. I've also gone out for a late lunch (I say that, but it was more of an early dinner) with my momsy and hence am feeling a lot better! Music, food, and most importantly, great company. Three definite cheer-me-ups! (:
Today's entry's gonna be on one of the three:
food!
What delicious food adventure are you bringing me on, you ask!
Decided to bring my Danish friend, Maiken, who was in Singapore on exchange (she's since returned to Denmark) to try zi char! Zi char (Tze char/Cze Char/Zhu Chao however you prefer it) is a Singaporean-Chinese style of cooking. It involves many kinds of dishes, but there're certain popular dishes like fu rong dan (omelette), kang kong fried with sambal chili (a particular type of leafy vegetable), tie ban dou fu (fried tofu on a hot pan with a mixture of egg, vegetable and mushroom), curry fish head and so on and so forth! Basically a group of people order a few (or many, depending on the size of your group) dishes and they are shared. Most of the dishes are cooked with really high heat, so things like stir fried vegetables can taste amazing because they get cooked without losing their crisp and greenness, as compared to when you're stir-frying at home, because usually there's a limit to how high the heat of the fire can go. Plus, if you cook all the time at home, you'd know that cleaning up specks of oil splashed everywhere can be a huge pain.

Decided to check out
Wah Chee at 5 Dover Crescent because Maiken stayed on campus, so I figured it was easier for us to go there. We met at One-North MRT station and we walked there easily within 5-10 minutes.
Maiken and I! We were in the same class (my GEK1058 Language and the Preservation of Culture), and I approached her to ask her if she was from Aarhus just on our first day of class and was bombarding her with questions regarding Denmark :x Quite presumptuous of me but I honestly just like Danish people, okay! They remind me of my happy exchange days. Anyway Maiken was really cool and responded to my questions excitedly. She told me she missed rye bread hehe. I miss rye bread too.
But anyway, back to Wah Chee! It's pretty well known around the area because there're many schools in the area (and we know how hungry developing minds can get) and many foreign students from a particular business school go there to eat. Here are the dishes we ordered:
char siew fried rice! They have a wide selection of fried rice, so you'll be spoilt for choice. I quite liked the fried rice, it had a 'wok' taste (wo-hei?), and the rice wasn't too hard or dry!
Butter chicken! This was really good, sweet and sticky goodness. I especially love the abundance of onions as well. Really succulent pieces of chicken!
Sweet potato veggie with garlic in oyster sauce! This was just okay, I felt that the veggies were a little stringy, maybe they were a little old.
Salted egg pork! The buttery salted egg sauce was glorious, but the pork was a tad too tough for my liking.
Fu rong dan, which is the
omelette! This was my favourite out of everything, because it was really fluffy, and the chef had added something sweet in it. The consistency and texture were similar to cai po on chwee kueh, but it was sweet! I don't know what it is, can someone help me out? It really made the omelette unique!
A speciality of the stall is
butter fried calamari (which I was so looking forward to try, though I have an allergy to seafood hurhur), but Maiken doesn't eat squid so we passed on that.
But anyway, did you think the two of us could finish all these dishes? Nope, we actually had someone else along with us:
Bryan practically volunteered to come with us so as to eat yummy food hahahaahah. :x
He also gave us a treat (was scolded by me, but his excuse was "When will I get the chance to treat a Danish friend again?" I guess I was lucky being there! Lol) and the bill was about 30+? So not too bad 'cos we had 5 dishes. HOWEVER, my verdict is that... I won't go back again! I think overall they're good (because of certain yummy dishes), but it's quite far from my place and there're better zi char stalls near my house. But in any case, Maiken enjoyed herself, which was what was important! :D
The three of us were so full we decided to walk back to school hahahahaha. It was a nice trek!
